What is Ad Revenue?
Ad revenue is the income publishers earn from displaying ads on their digital properties — websites, apps, CTV channels, or video platforms. It is calculated by multiplying the number of ad impressions served by the CPM (cost per thousand impressions) and dividing by 1,000.
Ad Revenue Formula
Revenue = (CPM × Impressions) / 1,000
For example, if you serve 1,000,000 impressions at a $2.50 CPM, your revenue is ($2.50 × 1,000,000) / 1,000 = $2,500.
Fill Rate and Effective Revenue
Fill rate is the percentage of ad requests that result in a served impression. If you request 1,000,000 impressions but only 65% are filled, your effective revenue is calculated on 650,000 filled impressions, not the full million. This is why fill rate is critical to actual revenue.
Effective Revenue = (CPM × Impressions × Fill Rate %) / 1,000
