IAB Standard Ad Sizes Explained
The Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB) maintains standard ad unit sizes to ensure consistency across publishers and ad servers. The IAB's "Universal Ad Package" (UAP) defines four sizes supported by virtually all publishers:
- 300 × 250 (Medium Rectangle)
- 728 × 90 (Leaderboard)
- 160 × 600 (Wide Skyscraper)
- 970 × 250 (Billboard)
Choosing the Right Ad Size
For maximum reach across the programmatic ecosystem, build creatives in the four UAP sizes first. Mobile-first campaigns should include 320×50 and 300×250. Video and CTV campaigns use 16:9 aspect ratios at various resolutions.
Best Practices
- Provide creatives in multiple sizes to maximize fill rates
- Keep initial file size under 150KB for display, under 2.2MB for video
- Use HTML5 creatives instead of static images for richer experiences
- Test creatives across devices and viewports before launching
